Past Wishes, Future Hopes
Author's note: I've written many Fanfics before but this is the first one I've ever submit. I'm always reading romances about RPxHY and I got kinda bored. After reading one about RPxDM I started thinking.This fanfics about Relena, Quatre, and Heero. I think it's kinda long, but hey, what the heck. Please Enjoy!

AC 200/ Sanc kingdom
"So tell me Quatre how are your sisters?" Relena asked sipping some of her tea. Quatre smiled. Every time they got together to chat Relena asked that.
"Oh their all just fine. How is Millardo?"
"He and Lucrezia visited just yesterday with their son. Quatre do you know how Duo and Trowa are doing? I haven't seen them in years!"
"Yes, they're all doing just fine."
"That's go to know. Heero will like that."
Quatre cringed at the name of one of his best friends. She always managed to bring him up some how. Quatre envied Heero. He had the love of the woman that sat before Quatre. That was the one thing Quatre wanted, Relena's love. He had had this secret wish in his heart ever since he had first met her, but he could never tell her. Heero was always there to protect her and love her. Though he went away on missions all the time the always came back. Quatre had a tiny hope in his heart that one day something would happen a it would make Relena his. He gulped down the jealousy and smiled at Relena. He thought of Duo and Hilde. They had gotten married and where expecting a baby. They were so happy. Quatre wished he and Relena where that way. Relena giggled and put down her teacup. Oh how Quatre longed to pull her into his arms and kiss her. He couldn't though, he never knew if Heero was watching. Heero would kill Quatre if he even touched her. He was like that. But that never stopped Quatre from yearning for Relena. Quatre thought that if he could hide his feelings long enough for Heero and Relena to get married that he would stop wanting her. But the wait was killing him. He didn't know how much more he could take. If only Heero would...
The door burst open and Lady Une, Heero, and Zechs walked into the room.
"What's going on?" Relena asked.
"We just received word that a group of anti-peace people are planning to attack the Sanc kingdom in a week or so." Lady Une said taking a seat beside Relena.
"Due to the dangers at hand, we are going to have to relocate you to a safer haven privately." Zechs said.
"Privately? Does that mean i have to go alone?" Relena asked fear rising in her throat.
"Yes."
"Won't i need a body guard?" She asked looking at Heero. Quatre gulped.
"Sorry Relena but Heero is going on the mission to stop these people."
"If you'd like Relena I can go with you, to keep you company." Quatre blurted out suddenly. He almost hit himself in the head for saying it but stopped. Everyone looked at Quatre.
"Yes i think that's a good idea. Quatre will go with Relena." Heero said. Heero had no idea that Quatre had more than just friendly emotions for Relena. He trusted Quatre.
Quatre's heart was jumping for joy.
"Alright we'll go get the car, Quatre grab your things, Relena you do the same."
Zechs said. Lady Une and Zechs left the room. Quatre stood up and took his leave.
He closed the door behind him but peeked in.
"Heero, why do you have to go?" She went to him and he pulled her into his arms.
"It is my duty to protect you Relena."
"I don't care what your duty is it's dangerous! You could get-" Heero put a finger on her lips.
"If i don't complete my duty i could lose you." Heero pulled her up and kissed her.
Quatre closed his eyes and turned and walked away. He could feel jealousy and anger bubbling in his heart. He hated how Heero had Relena's love. He hated how Relena could love Heero even when he left her for so long. Quatre would never want to leave her. He wanted to tell her that he loved her. He imagined Relena telling Quatre she loved him. Quatre stomped into his room and grabbed his things. He kicked the bed and punched his pillow to release some anger. When he was ready he swallowed his anger and walked down to the front door. A man in black took Quatre's things and put them in the back of a car. Quatre waited for Relena by the door. She and Heero came down the stairs. Relena walked to the car and did not look back. Quatre turned to leave as well but Heero grabbed his hand.
"Quatre wait."
"What is it Heero?" He said trying to fight emotions that had just come over him.
"Quatre promise me you'll take care of Relena."
"You have my word." Heero released Quatre. Quatre walked to the car and got in. He buckled his seat belt and turned to Relena. She was staring out the window. Quatre sighed. The car started and Relena and Quatre were on their way to the safe house.
Fifteen minutes later Relena turned to Quatre.
"Quatre why did you come with me?" Relena asked. Quatre looked Relena in the eyes and wished he could tell her it was because he loved her. But he knew he couldn't.
"I just didn't want you to be alone. That's all."
"Thank you." She smiled. She yawned and put her head on Quatre's shoulder.
When she was asleep Quatre pushed back a lock of her beautiful honey brown hair. She was so peaceful. Quatre touched her face. Her skin was warm and silky soft. He pulled his hand away.
"Damn! I shouldn't have come." He said quietly.
He put his head on Relena's and fell asleep.
"Come on Heero! Admit it your glad to see me. Come on!" Duo said grinning at Heero has he got out of his shuttle. Heero gave Duo hid death glare.
"Duo, knock it off."He said grabbing Duo around the neck.
"Ahhh! Help!"Duo yelled.
Heero laughed and pulled Duo to another launching pad.
"Heero, man has it been along time. I can still remember the last time we met. Remember it was right after Mariemaia stopped her attack on the Earth. You know, down in that bunker. We all really didn't get to say good bye." Duo said smiling. Heero smirked.
"We all have our own lives now. We aren't needed to fight any more."
"The only battle I've fought in after the war was with Hilde." Duo said putting his hands behind his head. Heero smiled.
"You haven't changed a bit Duo."
"But you have. You're laughing and smiling."
"Heero you're are late! What took you so long?!" Duo grinned.
"Wufei! Good to see you man!”Duo yelled. The anger Chinese man glared at Duo then at Heero.
"I didn’t know he was coming!”He yelled.
"Well hello to you to. You haven’t changed much.”
"Duo will be a big help to us Wufei, and you know that.”Heero said turning and walking to a Sonic Jet that was waiting for them.
"Did you invite clown boy too?”Wufei asked following Heero up the stairs to the entrance of the jet.
"No, there wasn’t time.”Heero replied walking to the cockpit of the jet.
"He could have been more help then Maxwell.”Wufei said sitting down in the copilot seat. Heero took the pilots seat.
"Duo we’re taking off. You set back there?”Heero yelled. Duo gave an okay signal and the jet took off. When they were clear of the airport Heero switched on the autopilot and went to the back of the plane. Wufei followed.
"Relena hold still! I need to wrap this up!”Quatre yelled grabbing Relena’s arm.
Relena and Quatre had been at the safe house for two days. It was an isolated little place up in the mountains. That day she and Quatre had been exploring part of the woods when Relena had tripped and cut her leg pretty badly. Quatre had managed to carry her back up to the house and clean the cut, but Relena had started to fidget and swing her legs and arms around. Relena held still for a minute. It was long enough for Quatre to wrap her leg. Relena giggled and started swinging her legs again. Quatre couldn’t resists he started tickling her legs. She swirmed and laughed.
"Quatre stop!”
Quatre smiled up at her. Relena smiled back. Quatre had been right. He shouldn’t have gone. It was just making Quatre fall even more in love with Relena.
Relena giggled. She tried to imagine Heero tickling her. She couldn’t. Ever since they got to the cabin Quatre acted in a way Relena had never seen him act. Instead of acting like the very formal, and serious Quatre that she knew, he was acting like a teenage boy. He was goofing off and joking with her. For some reason Relena always in her mind compared what Quatre was doing to what Heero would do in that situation. Heero was quiet and serious. Quatre was cheery and funny. Relena knew that if Heero caught Quatre joking and goofing off with Relena that he would never let Quatre near her again.
Nothing mattered though Relena was in love with Heero. And that was that. She would just have to stop comparing them.
Relena got up and started walking toward her room. She stopped half way and turned to Quatre. She smiled.
"Goodnight Quatre.”
She went to her room and closed the door.
Quatre started walking towards his own room. To him the last few days had been like both heaven and hell. Heaven because he was with Relena, hell because he couldn’t tell her he loved her. He stopped at Relena’s bedroom door.
"Goodnight Relena.”
An explosion rocked the jet.
"What just happened?!”Duo yelled
"Our ruttier just got blown off!”Wufei screamed at Duo.
"Duo, Wufei, I’ll try and keep this thing steady. Use your parachute and jump!”
Wufei opened the hatch. Duo turned back to Heero.
"What about you?!”He yelled.
"Don’t worry about me! Just go!”
Wufei grabbed Duo and shoved him out of the plane. Wufei jumped.
When their parachutes had opened they watched in horror has the jet crash-landed in the water. It exploded.
"HEERO!!!!!”Duo screamed over tears.
Sally saw the explosion and went to investigate. She spotted Duo and Wufei. Wufei landed on the boat and detached his parachute. Duo did the same. After the parchute was gone Duo collapsed in a heap on the ground and started sobbing uncontrollably.
Sally frowned.
"What’s wrong with him?”She turned to ask Wufei. Tears rolled down Wufei’s cheek.
"You should already have realized it Woman! There is only two of us here! Heero went down with the plane! Don’t you see that!?”Wufei yelled at Sally. Sally bowed her head.
"Heero. Dead?”
Duo started sobbing even louder. Wufei went over to him.
"I’m sorry Duo. But she’s right. Not even Heero could have survived that.”
Duo stoped crying and recomposed himself. He stood up wiped the tears from his face and walked up to Sally.
"Give me your cell phone.”He said reaching out his hand.
"What for?”she asked handing him her phone. Duo flipped it open and dialed a few numbers.
"I, has Heero’s best friend. Am obligated to tell Relena about Heero’s fate.”
He waited for someone to pick up.
"Hello?”
"Quatre?”
"Yes, Duo is that you? How did the mission go?”
"Quatre the mission was a success but?”?
"What’s the matter, you don’t sound well.”
"Quatre, Heero’s dead.”
Quatre frowned.
"Quatre I need to speak with Relena.”Quatre turned and handed the phone to Relena.
"Hello, Duo?”
"What? What do you mean something happened to Heero?!”
Her eyes grow wide and she dropped the phone.
Quatre grabbed it.
"I’ll call you back my friend.”He said and hung up. He walked over to Relena and sat down next to her. Quatre pulled her into his arms.
"Relena it’s ok. You can go ahead and cry.”
Relena burst into tears; she buried her face in Quatre shoulder and started to sob.
Quatre rocked her back and forth.
"I’m sorry Heero. I never wanted you to really die. I’ll keep the promise I made to you.”He thought.
Hilde looked at her best friend. Relena was pale and thin. Her eyes were bloodshot from crying. Quatre sat beside her. His face was grim. Hilde looked at her own husband. Duo looked a lot like Relena. Only he wasn’t that much thinner. Hilde turned and sat beside Relena. Duo took the seat next to Hilde. Hilde sighed and looked around. She saw Trowa and his sister, Wufei, Mariemaia, Sally, and Lady Une sitting in the rows behind them. She was surprised to see Zechs, Noin, and their two-year-old son, Lance, also sitting behind them. Zechs must have really respected Heero. She thought. She sat up. Heero’s memorial service was starting.
Four months later”
"Relena has long has you need me I’ll be here.”Quatre said smiling at the thin, pale, woman that sat before him.
Relena felt like she was a burden to Quatre. He had been with her since Heero died. Always with a comforting word or a shoulder to cry on. In true she liked his company. But she didn’t want to trouble Quatre.
"But Quatre, why?”
Quatre got up and went and sat beside her.
"Two reasons, first I promised him I’d take care of you. Second because you haven’t fully recovered yet.”
Those were just the minor reasons. Quatre didn’t dare tell her the real reason.
Quatre pushed a lock of her hair out of her face.
Relena thought a minute. Maybe it was time she moves on. Has hard has it will be she didn’t want Quatre to feel obligated to take care of her. She looked up and smiled the first smile she had smiled since that day.
"Thank you Quatre.”
Two months later
Relena giggled has the little whit puppy crawled up and licked her face.
"Oh, Quatre I love him! Thank you!”Relena said picking up her birthday present.
The puppy’s fur was soft and warm. Quatre smiled.
"I’m glad you like him Relena.”
"I think I’ll call him” Rocky.”
Rocky yipped.
"I think he agrees!”Quatre said petting the dog on the head.
Relena looked at Quatre. He was the same has he always looked. He had been gone for the past three days and Relena realized how much she missed him and needed him. Two months ago Relena had gone back to normal. And yet, Quatre still stayed.
"Quatre?”Quatre looked at her.
"Yes Relena?”
"Please tell me why you have stayed with me all this time. I want to know the real reason."Quatre sighed and sat down on the sofa. Relena sat beside him and Rocky curled up on her lap. This was it he thought. There was no backing out now.
"Because I’ve been in love with you.”He looked at the floor.
"Since when Quatre?”
"Since we first met.”
Rocky whimpered and Relena rubbed his head.
"Back then I thought it was a mere crush, but then when we spent more and more time working together I realized I was in love with you. But I could never say that I loved you. You were Heero’s and I accepted that. But I found myself becoming jealous. Heero is my good friend, but I wished in my heart that something would happen and you’d be mine. I regret ever even thinking that now. I’m sorry Relena but I’m hopelessly in love with you. If you don’t want to see me again I’ll understand.”
Relena moved closer and kissed Quatre on the cheek.
"Quatre, I always thought of you has a dear friend up in till two months ago. My heart told me it was time I stopped hoping Heero was alive and move on with life. Quatre you’ve been with me for six months giving me all of your time and energy. I really appreciate it. But for the past two months I have lived wishing one thing. Do you know what that thing is?”
Quatre turned and looked at her. Rocky was fast asleep. Relena’s eyes glimmered.
"No”Relena smiled and put a finger on Quatre’s lips.
"I wished that it wasn’t just that you felt obligated to help me that you stayed.
I wished that you loved me.”Quatre’s heart leaped. Did she just say what she thought she just said? Relena pulled up and kissed Quatre on the mouth. It was a long passionate kiss. It was what Quatre had longed for since he met her. Quatre pulled away.
"I love you Relena.”
"As I love you, my dear Quatre.”
Three months later”.
Sally shivered has she walked along the beach. Her vacation was almost over. She stopped and looked at the ocean.
"So much has changed since you left us...She said. She was thinking of Heero.
Relena had returned to her job has vice foreign minister two months ago. She seem really happy now that she and Quatre were engaged. Wufei had gotten married to a lovely Chinese woman a couple of months back; he gave up his job so Sally didn’t have a partner.
Sally sighed. She heard a noise beside her. She turned and gasped. A tall man with a green tang top and ripped blue jeans stood watching her. Sally froze. She knew who it was; there was no mistaking those spiky bangs or Prussian blue eyes.
"Heero Yuy.”Sally managed to say.
"What has changed Sally?”Heero replied in his cold voice.
"Heero how did you survive the crash?”Heero grinned
"I’ll tell you.”
Flash back: Heero sitting in the cockpit, Wufei and Duo just jumped.
"Damn this things gonna crash!”Heero yelled. He jumped out of the pilot seat and ran for the door. He jumped out the airplane door and landed in the water. At impact he cracked a few ribs and broke his arm. The plane exploded sending ruble flying. Heero ducked under water and stayed there until he was sure that was safe. By that time Sally and the others had already left. Heero swam towards land. He was only about 3 miles from shore when he passed out. Fortunately for him a man spotted him and got him before he drowned. He was unconscious for two months.
End of flashback.
"When I woke I had a minor case of amnesia so I didn’t remember your phone numbers and were you guys lived. After three months I remembered the general area you guys lived in. it took me a month to get here. And out of luck I run into you.”
"Heero that’s quite a story.”Sally said.
"How is Relena?”
"Quatre has been taking care of her. Everyone thinks your dead. Relena does too.”
Heero smiled.
"I need to thank Quatre for staying with her while I was out of commission. I can’t wait to see Relena.”Sally stopped
"Ohh, Heero? I said she thought you where dead.”Heero turned to look at Sally.
"So, she’s gonna want to see me. She probably missed me a lot.”Sally looked at the ground.
"Quatre has been staying with her ever since you died.”
"Yha, what are you getting at Sally?”
"Quatre and Relena are engaged, they’ll be getting married in three months. I’m sorry Heero."Sally’s words hit Heero like a million knifes hitting his skin.
Quatre was one of Heero’s befriends. Why would he do that?
"Are you serious?”
"Dead serious Heero. Like I said a lot has changed. Wufei got married. Hilde had her baby. Trowa is planning to get married. Relena and Quatre are working has partners on Relena’s job.
"She agreed to marry him even after I...Heero bowed his head.
Sally could see a tear fall down his face through his thick bangs. Heero snapped up making Sally jump.
"Take me to see them.”
"Heero I don’t think it’s a good idea. I don’t want to be the bringer of Quatre’s death.”
"Then bring me when the others are there. I don’t care. I want to see them.”
"Promise me you’ll behave.”
"You have my word.”
Sally pulled into Relena’s driveway. She never came to any of Relena’s parties because she didn’t feel like she fit it. Relena would know something’s up.
But it was the only time every one was all-together.
Sally looked at Heero. He had an emotionless face on. Sally thought he looked ready to kill anything. She hoped he’d keep his promise.
They stepped out of the car and walked up the front steps. Sally opened the door and walked in Heero following her. She knew everyone was in the living room. She walked up the stairs and took a big breath of air before stepping into the doorway of the living room.
No one noticed her at first, then Duo caught sight of her.
"What a surprise! Sally welcome!”Everyone turned.
"Come on in and have something to eat Sally.”Relena said smiling. Sally hated having to ruin all of their fun.
"I didn’t come here to eat or joke around.”
"Then why you come?”Sally fidgeted. This is it, she said in her mind.
"I brought someone to see you all.”She stepped into the room and stepped aside for Heero to enter. Heero walked slowly into the room his face grim.
"Heero?!"Duo yelled jumping up and running toward him. Duo hugged Heero and put his hands on his shoulders.
"Heero your alive that’s wonderful!”Duo smiled has a tear ran down his face.
Heero gave Duo the death glare. Duo backed off. Heero eyes moved from face to face.
Finally stopping at Relena’s. Then he quickly moved his glare to Quatre. Heero crossed his arms and turned to the door and walked out. Sally watched him.
"I’m sorry to have ruined your evening everyone.”She turned to leave.
Heero was waiting for her. He was leaned up against her car arms still crossed. Sally saw that he was crying. He got in the car and so did Sally. Sally drove to her place. She let Heero in and closed the door.
"Heero I’m really sorry.”Sally said. Heero looked at the wall. He lifted up a balled fist. Heero smashed his fist into the wall making a large hole.
"I should have never trusted Quatre. I should have seen it. The way he looked at Relena. I should have known he was in love with her!”He turned and smashed his other fist into a large mirror. He smashed the glass and cut his hand. Then he went back to punching the walls. Each time imaging he was beating the shit out of Quatre. Finally he crumpled down to his knees. He started to sob. Sally kneeled down and put a hand on his shoulder.
"Don’t go beating yourself up over it Heero. There was nothing you could have done to stop Quatre and Relena from falling in love.”Sally said. Heero looked up.
"I don’t understand. Didn’t Relena love me? I loved her. I even promised her that when I got back from that mission that I would ask her to marry me. I promised her that.”Heero leaned over and sobbed into Sally’s shoulder.
"Oh, Heero. Relena was like a zombie for four months after your death. Quatre stayed with her the whole time. Then after she recovered Quatre still stayed with her. It’s kinda hard not to stay with a guy for that long and not like him. Heero she still, even though she was in love with Quatre, loved you. If we even mentioned your name she would brake out in tears. Oh Heero, loosing you was the most heartbreaking thing that could ever happen to her.”Sally said.
Heero looked up.
"But why? Why did she have to agree to marry Quatre? I thought she loved me.”
"People can’t hold onto the past forever Heero. We didn’t know you were alive.”
Heero stopped crying.
"I have nothing to live for now. No one. I should just kill myself right now.”
Sally thought a minute, then she smiled.
"Don’t kill yourself yet. Wait right here.”Sally rushed out the door and was gone for about twenty minutes. Heero made himself something to eat. He wondered if Sally would come back.
Sally came through the door carrying a medium sized box. She sat down across from Heero and put the box in front of her.
Heero reached for the lid but pulled his hand away when it moved. He heard scratching noises. The box suddenly tipped over in Heero’s direction, it’s containment spilling into Heero’s lap. A completely black puppy stared up at Heero. She had green eyes and pointy ears. She jumped up and licked Heero on the cheek.
"Now you have someone to live for. She may not be human but she needs to be taken care of.”Sally said picking up the box and placing it on the ground. Heero just stared at the little dog sitting on his lap. Sally was afraid he wouldn’t want it. But then Heero smiled and scratched the puppy behind the ears.
"Thank you Sally. I’ll live not just for this little one, but for my friends and myself.”Heero said rubbing the puppy’s tummy.
"What are you gonna name her Heero?”
"Her name’s Jetta, Jetta Yuy.”Heero said holding his dog up. Her little tail wagged back and forth. Sally giggled. Heero and Jetta looked cute together.
The next day Sally and Heero took Jetta out. Heero absolutely adored his little dog and wouldn’t let Sally touch her. He told Sally to wait in the car while he went in the pet store with Jetta. When they came out Jetta was wearing a silver collar with a silver nametag dangling from it. Heero helped Jetta in the car. When they got back to Sally’s place they found a note in the door. It read:
Came by this morning. We’ll come back tonight. Just wanted to see you guys.
Duo, Hilde, Quatre, Relena, Trowa, and Wufei.
"Well it looks has if we are going to have company tonight.”Sally looked at Heero who was holding Jetta like a scared child.
"Oh Heero, you can’t hide behind me or Jetta. You have to face them. I’ll go make something for us all to eat and you go feed Jetta.”Heero reluctantly turned around and started for the kitchen.
Sally hadn’t even moved a muscle when the doorbell rang. Heero whipped around.
Sally opened the door. Two young women were standing outside, it was Dorothy and another girl with auburn hair that Heero didn’t recognize.
"It’s.Sally how are you? We were wondering if you’d like to come with us tonight out to eat."Sally smiled.
"Sorry Dorothy but I’m expecting company this evening.”Dorothy saw Heero through the door. She pushed Sally aside.
"Oh, Heero your alive! It’s so good to see you again.”She said.
"Come on in, the others are coming soon.”Heero said.
Sally let Dorothy and her friend in and went to make dinner. Dorothy sat down on a sofa in the living room. Her friend just stood there. Heero sat across from her. No sooner then he’d sat down that Jetta jumped up on his lap. He smiled and petted the dog on the head.
"What a cute puppy. Mr.Herro! Don’t you agree Anna?”She turned to her friend.
"Yes.”The woman said.
"Heero this is Anna. She and I met a while ago. She’s is traveling with me.”
"Hello sir.”Anna said curtsying slightly. Heero smiled and picked up Jetta’s paw. He waved in the air a bit, and then let it go.
"This is Jetta. I met her just last night. She’s my constant companion.”Jetta yipped. Anna giggled. Dorothy smiled. This is going well, Dorothy thought. They chatted for a little bit then Dorothy said it was time for them to be leaving. Anna frowned she bent down and kissed Jetta on the head.
"Goodbye Jetta, I hope I see you again soon. Goodbye Heero, I hope I see you again too.”Then she smiled and left. When they had gone Heero looked at his dog.
"You’re a girl magnet you know.”Suddenly Jetta jumped up and started to growl at the window. Her ears were cocked up and she looked ready to attack. Heero looked out the window a saw a car pull up. He already knew who was inside.
"Sally! Their here!”He grabbed Jetta and walked to the kitchen. Sally went and waited at the door.
Duo rang the doorbell. No sooner had he done that then had Sally opened the door. She stepped back to let them in. Relena had a puppy in her arms. Soon they where all standing in the hall just staring at each other.
"Holy cow it looks like someone was fooling around with a sledge hammer in here!” Duo said looking at the holes in the wall and the broken mirror. Sally only smiled.
"Oh no, Heero was just letting out some anger that’s all.”She smiled when she saw their shocked faces.
"I’m making dinner, if you guys want some.”She turned and brought them all to the living room. Relena was hugging her puppy tighter. Something Sally knew Heero was going to be doing soon.
"I’ll go find Heero.”She turned to leave. She walked into the kitchen. Heero looked up. Jetta still looked ready to kill something. She smiled.
"Heero the only thing I’m gonna warn you about is that Relena brought her puppy.” Sally turned to the stove. Heero let Jetta go. She bound down the hall and went to the living room.
Duo felt a tug on the bottom of his pants. He looked down to she a little black dog pulling on his pant leg.
"Well hello there aren’t you friendly.”He said reaching down to touch the puppy.
The little dog jumped back and growled. Rocky barked. The other little dog turned and walked slowly up to Relena who was holding Rocky tightly. Quatre wasn’t afraid that the dog might hurt Relena, but he was worried about Rocky. Trowa snuck up behind the little black dog and grabbed it. It yelped in surprise and turned around and bit Trowa hard. The puppy’s teeth sank into Trowa flesh easily. Trowa released his grip on the puppy. The little dog jumped back and growled. Trowa looked at his hand. Where the dog had bitten him he was bleeding.
"Damn! That little buggers got quite a bite!”Trowa yelled.
Sally walked in with a big tray full of food and a first aid kit. She put the tray down and started wrapping Trowa’s hand up.
"That dog’s has one bad attitude.”Duo said.
"And one heck of a bite!”Trowa added rubbing his hand. Sally turned to the little dog that was still growling.
"Hey, what’s the big idea girl?”She reached her hand out to touch the dog. She snapped at Sally’s hand.
"What’s wrong with that dog?”Hilde asked cradling her one-month-old son.
"She gets it from her owner. HEERO!!!”She yelled at the top of her lungs. Heero walked in the room.
"What?”
"Your dog is being a nuisance. She bit Trowa.”Heero walked up to the dog and picked her up. The dog suddenly was waging its tail and whimpering.
"Trowa scared her by grabbing her.”The little dog crawled up and licked Heero’s face.
"I still think there is something wrong with that dog.”Duo said. The dog growled at Duo.
"Jetta just doesn’t like you that’s all.”
"I bet she doesn’t like anybody but you Heero.”Duo said picking up a sandwich from the tray and plopping it in his mouth. Heero walked over to Wufei who was being really quiet. Jetta looked at Wufei for a minute then jumped into his arms and licked his face.
"She likes Wufei.”Heero said turning and sitting in a chair next to the tray of food.
"Heero, I wanted to say I was sorry. I...Relena started but Jetta barked and jumped from Wufei's arms into Trowa’s.
"Please don’t bother apologizing.”Heero said.
"Heero, I...Quatre started but again Jetta barked and jumped this time into Sally’s arms.
"I said don’t bother apologizing.”
"Heero, are we still friends?”Quatre asked. Heero looked up at Quatre. Jetta barked and jumped into Heero’s arms. He looked down at his dog and smiled.
"Yes, Quatre we are still friends. You all are still my friends.”
"That’s nice to know.”Duo said plopping another sandwich in his mouth. Relena eyed Heero strangely. What was wrong with him? He wasn’t acting like the Heero she once knew. He was different. During her thoughts she had loosened her grip on Rocky. Rocky jumped out of her arms and on to the floor. He barked at Jetta who jumped down and started playing with him. Heero smiled. He watched the only thing that gave him joy at the moment play with a puppy that was Relena and Quatre’s. He thought about what Sally had said before. He smiled. He couldn’t hold on to the past anymore. He had to reach out and grab hold of the future.
Six years later
A big black dog barked when she saw a bunch of cars pull in the driveway. Jetta ran towards the cars. One stopped and Relena, Quatre, their two five-year-old daughters, and Rocky came out. Out of the next car came Trowa, his wife, and their son and daughter; then Duo and Hilde with their son and newborn daughter; then Wufei with his own family, and Zechs and Noin with their kids. Lady Une and Mariemaia came out with Dorothy. Jetta spotted Duo and tackled him. He screamed and his son giggled. Jetta got off Duo and went to Rocky. Relena spotted Jetta and bent down.
"Jetta! Were is your family?”Jetta barked.
"Daddy, daddy Mrs. Winner is here!”A little girl with auburn hair and Prussian blue eyes said running to her father. Heero sat up. He smiled at his four-year-old daughter.
"Really Mary? Does your mother know?”Mary smiled
"Yes, daddy, come on! We can’t start Adin’s birthday party with out you!”
Mary grabbed her father by the sleeve. Heero got up and walked toward the house.
It was his and Anna’s. Sally had also come to stay at their house.
"Heero!”Sally called from the screen door.
When Heero finally arrived he smiled. Rocky, Jetta, and Wufei’s dog were mauling Duo, who was on the floor laughing. Trowa had a bunch of presents in hand. Sally and Relena were bringing out the cake.
Anna smiled when she saw Heero. She was holding their one-year-old son, Adin, in her arms. Heero walked up to Adin and tickled under his chin. The brown haired, Prussian blue eyed baby giggled and kicked his father.
"Happy birthday Adin.”He said.
After cake and presents Heero walked out onto the balcony.
"Heero, what would it have been like if we had gotten married?”Relena asked
stepping beside Heero. Heero looked at her.
"I don’t know and don’t really care. I don’t really want to ponder over what ifs.”Heero turned back toward the fading sunset.
"We all have changed. We all are looking toward tomorrow. Not looking at yesterday.
The past is the past. People need to understand that.”Heero smiled and closed his eyes. He let the wind blow through his hair. Relena did the same. The past was the past. Now they each had a bright future ahead of them. Heero had it with Anna, and Relena had it with Quatre.
The End
For the rest of Relena and Heero’s lives they were friends. Never again did either of them think of what could have happened in the past. The just lived their lives always looking forward to tomorrow.
