Destiny of the Heart

Chapter two

Millardo paced the same area on the runway for the past hour. They were more than an hour late. He glanced down at his watch. 'Damn it, where they hell are they?' He finally pulled out his cell phone and called Lucrezia..

"Noin the plane hasn't arrived yet."

"What?" she was shocked.

"I need you to start checking around to see if any airports, of any size, has had an unscheduled or emergency landing in the past hour."

"I'll get right on it....Zechs."

"Yes Noin."

"I'm sure that with Heero there everything is fine. Maybe they were running behind schedule."

"Noin with Heero being there they should have been ahead of schedule." he hung up the phone and walked over to the limo. He knocked on the window and the driver rolled it down. "It looks like we might have a problem. I need to get to Preventer Headquarters."

"Yes sir."

Heero woke up to the smell of jet fuel and smoke. His head hurt like hell. Somehow the plane hand landed upside down. He reached up to unbuckle the seatbelt but it wouldn't give way. He pulled out his pocket knife that was tucked in his pocket and cut the belt. He fell to the floor with a thud crying out in pain as his right shoulder was scrapped by some jagged metal. He started coughing and looked round. The cabin was filled with smoke making it hard to see and uncomfortable to breath. He stood up and felt something soft brush his cheek. He looked to see what it was.

'Relena.' He quickly placed his left shoulder against her chest and wrapped his left arm around her back. With his right hand he cut her seat belt off and braced himself as she toppled on him. She let out a quiet moan. 'She's alive.' He knew that he had to get her out of there. He placed his right arm under her knees and held her against his body.

Heero tried his best to find the way out as carefully as possible. He stumbled a few times slipping on something wet. From the smell of it it was jet fuel. He knew that with the smoke there was a fire and with all of the fuel around the plane may explode. He took a few more steps and found a hole in the side of the plane. He quickly climbed out having to take a small jump down to the ground. He gritted his teeth as the extra weight put strain on his legs.

Once outside of the plane he could get a better glimpse of Relena. She looked extremely pail and had a deep gash on her forehead. Heero looked around and saw a large boulder not far away. He carried her over to it and placed her down behind it just incase the plane did explode they would have some protection. He looked over her injuries. She didn't have any that he would consider life threatening for her. He placed a hand on her neck to check her pulse. She seemed ok. He was about to stand up when her seen her shiver. He was built up on so much adrenaline that he hadn't noticed that it was probably in the 30's outside.

"Shit." He looked back at the plane. He had to go back and check the others and to get the first aid kit and supplies. He was pushing it, the plane could go at any second. Heero herd the sound of running water. He looked back over his shoulder and saw a small stream nearby. He went over to it and ripped a long piece of material off of his shirt. He soaked it in the water and wringed it out, then tied it around his face covering his mouth and nose and ran back to the plane.

"So you're saying that you let Heero schedule an uncharted flight, only giving you the whereabouts on where they would be taking off and landing, And you have no idea where they could possibly be if the plane crashed." Lady Une was shocked.

Zechs nodded. "It was for Relena's safety that the flight was unscheduled. Only Heero and the pilot knew what way that they were coming."

"So they could be anywhere then." Une rubbed her temples. She could feel a big headache coming on.

Noin walked into the office.

"Noin is there anything?" Zechs asked.

She shook her head. "There haven't been any confirmed reports of an unscheduled or emergency landing anywhere."

Zechs smacked his hand down on the table. "Damn it. Then I guess that we will have to assume the worse and get a search party going as soon as possible."

"Where are you going to look. You don't know where they are?" Une asked.

"Were going to start from where they took off and try every possible way that they could have went. Noin I want you to start checking around to see if anyone is reporting a crashed plane." He stood up and left Noin and Une in the office.

"Winter is here. Most areas are expecting their first snow fall tonight. If that plane crashed and they survived they may not make if it snows in their area. It may be awhile before we find them. And with the freezing temperatures at night and snow I wouldn't expect them to last long. Even with Heero being there." Une rested her head in her hands.

Noin knew what she said was true. What chance would they have if they were injured and need help, and to make things worse they had no idea where to even look for them.

Heero was unable to find anyone else alive on the plane. He managed to find a first aid kit and stuffed it in a bag with some flares, matches, and two jackets that he found.. He was about to search the plane for where the luggage compartment may be currently located when he herd a whooshing sound. Heero quickly scrambled to get out of the plane. He didn't get very far before the plane exploded. The force of the explosion threw him a couple of feet and he slammed down on the ground. Heero covered his head hoping that nothing landed on him killing, or injuring him. He was Relena's only chance for survival.

Heero didn't know how long he was knocked out. He was woken up when he felt something cold and wet land on his cheek. Heero opened his eyes and looked around him. Glancing up at the sky he was able to confirm what he saw on the ground around him, and it made him tense. It had begun to snow.
