Destiny of the Heart

Chapter Ten

Legal stuff. I don't make any money off of using the names in this story. I don't take credit for them. Just using the names for a fun story for fun readers.

Duo checked over the contents of the bag that he had packed early that morning, before the sun was even up. He placed the bag on the back of the snowmobile and tied it down. He was finishing up checking to make sure that it was running condition when he herd someone stop behind him.

"Duo, what are you up to?"

Duo turned his head slightly and smiled at Sally who had her hands on her hips.

"What's it look like." He turned his attention back to the task at hand.

"You're not seriously going out there. Not with the warnings that they gave us."

"I'm not staying here. I'm willing to take the risk." Duo turned to face her once again.

"Duo the past two days has been warmer than usual for this time of year. The snow on the mountain is loosening up. It's very likely that the vibration from the snowmobile could cause another slide."

"I know the risks. I'm still going. I can't sit around here any longer when I know that I can find them." Duo checked his coat pocket and pulled out a pen and map. He quickly unfolded it. "Now will you help me and tell me where you spotted the smoke."

Sally pulled the map from his hands and looked it over. She yanked the pen out of Duo's hand and marked something on the map. She knew that no matter what she said or did he was still going to go. It was better to help him. If that was them, and they are still alive she was sure that Duo would find them. She handed the map back to him and patted him on the back. "Be careful and radio in often."

"What about Zechs and Noin?"

Sally smiled. "Don't worry about them. I'll handle it."

Duo climbed onto the snowmobile and started it up. "Thanks Sally, I knew that I could count on you."

"I want to find them as well Duo. Remember radio in often."

Duo nodded and took off. Sally sighed and started to walk away only to bump into Zechs. They just stared at each other until Zechs spoke up.

"Keep me informed."

Sally smiled at him. "I will."

Relena opened her eyes only to see darkness. She felt on both sides of her only to take notice that she was alone. She slowly stood up feeling her way along the wall she made her way to where she felt the hole in the snow from where she and Heero had been taking turns digging for hours now. They ran into many problems while digging out and she was still exhausted from clearing the snow.

"Heero."

She herd some movement and felt a pile of snow from at her feet before she herd a small grunt as Heero's feet hit the ground.

"Relena give me your hand."

She reached out until she brushed his arm and felt down it until his hand clasped her own. He pulled her toward him and wrapped his arm around her waist and turned back toward the tunnel pushing her in front of him.

"Go ahead of me."

"You got us out."

He gave her a gentle push. "Climb."

She felt her way to the tunnel and started to climb. She slowly made her way until she spotted a faint light that led to the surface. She pulled herself out and stared at the scenery of the sun rising in the distance. A short time later she felt Heero's arms snake around her waist and pull her against him. She sighed as he buried his face against her neck.

"Are you hungry?"

She felt his lips brush against her neck as he spoke causing her heart to race. She nodded her head. "Starving."

Duo stopped the snowmobile and shut it off. He was close to the area where Sally had circled on the map for him. He had debated with his stomach for the past hour that he wasn't hungry but his stomach won. It well after one so he radioed in and talked to Sally. After he was done reporting in he got up off the mobile and stretched while taking a few steps. He then walked back and grabbed the duffel bag that he strapped to the mobile before he left. He pulled out his coffee thermos and pored himself a drink. He then rummaged threw the bag pulling out a sack that he packed a few sandwiches in and leaned against the mobile and ate. After he finished his first sandwich he pulled out the map and unfolded it laying it flat on the seat and looked over his coordinates again.

Relena had spent the past hour gathering wood so they could cook what ever Heero was busy catching them to eat. She was walking past a small clearing when she stopped in her tracks when she saw Heero laying on the ground. She smiled at the sight of him. He had his full concentration on the task at hand.

Heero had managed to set up another trap to catch a rabbit by using his extra shirt to tie the sticks together and to make the sting that he held in his hands. He once again found himself in a waiting game with a small rabbit. It has been weeks since he has managed to catch something other than fish and he was determined to not let it get away.

He had spent a hour down by the stream earlier that day where he found a small area of dirt. A small patch of grass was starting to grow in the exposed dirt. He had pulled out what he could and was using that as bait. He was successful in finally getting a victim. He smirked as the rabbit approached the trap. Once it hopped under Heero pulled the string setting the trap. He went running toward the trap, landing on it like he had done that one and only time he had caught one. Only this time he didn't get there quick enough and the rabbit had managed to knock the trap over just as Heero was landing on top of it. He reached out and grabbed the rabbit only to have it slip threw his hands. Heero quickly sprung up and dove at it only to get a face full of snow, and in the background of all of this happening he herd Relena laughing at him.

Heero turned around to look for her and found her not far from him. She had an armful of sticks and was hysterically laughing. Heero gave her a evil grin as he got up, grabbing a fist full of snow.

He formed it into a snowball and held it up for her to see. "So you thought that was funny."

Her eyes went wide when she took notice of what he was about to do. She took a step back only to see that she had no time to react as Heero launched the snowball at her. Relena quickly dropped the sticks she was carrying just as the snowball smacked her in the side of the face. She reached up to wipe the snow away and looked at Heero only to see another snowball flying at her. She screamed and dunked just in time for it to whiz by her head. She gathered up some snow and tried to form a ball to throw back at him only to get smacked in the arm.

She looked at Heero again to see that he was walking toward her with a few more snowballs in hand. She quickly took off running hoping to find a tree to hide behind. She stopped and turned around and threw her only snowball and hit Heero, causing her to laugh all over again at her lucky shot of hitting him square in the face.

"No that was funny!" She yelled at him.

She screamed when she seen Heero charge at her.

*****

Duo was about to start the snowmobile back up, after taking an hour lunch, when her herd what sounded like screaming. He stepped back off the mobile and walked over toward the embankment of the hill that he had stopped on. No it wasn't screaming that he herd, it was laughing. He looked over to another hill in the distance and could make out two figures. He ran back over to the mobile and went threw his bag until he found his binoculars and looked over at the hill just in time to see one person charge at the other. He looked threw his binoculars and smiled as he see the two people that he has been searching for for a month now, topple down the hill that they had been on.

*****

Heero held Relena close to him until the finally came to a stop at the bottom of the hill. He rolled over to let Relena lay on top of him. They both smiled at each other.

"Are you ok?"

Relena nodded. "Maybe you should stick to catching fish."

"Hunting you was a lot more fun. And a lot more rewarding." He smiled and pulled her face toward his and kissed her.

Relena giggled after they parted for air. "You can hunt me any time you want."

He smirked. "They you better be prepared to be the hunted."

They both lost themselves in another kiss, this one more passionate than the other. Heero wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her tighter against his body. Relena gasp as she felt how much he wanted her. They were both lost in there own little world that they didn't hear the approaching footsteps in the snow stop next to them.

"You two seriously need a big warm bed to finish where that's leading to."

Both of them froze. Relena's eyes went wide when she recognized the voice. Heero looked over to where the voice came from.

"Duo." Heero looked at the other man who was kneeling next to them.

Duo couldn't contain it anymore and he broke out laughing. "I knew it, I knew this would happen."

Relena quickly got up and threw her arms around Duo and hugged him.

Heero sat up and offered Duo a small smile, causing him to stare at Heero like he was seeing things.

"Where is the rest of the search party?" Heero asked him.

"Search party hah! You're looking at it."

"What?" Relena pulled back to look at him.

"Because of that whole avalanche thing no one was supposed to be out here."

"You came out here without clearance." Heero crossed his arms and glared at Duo.

"Yah, something like that. I'm going back for my gear and to radio in. I'll be back in a few."

They both watched as Duo walked away from them and waited for him to come back. A few minutes later Duo pulled to a stop next to them and smiled at the sight of the two of them again. Heero had managed to distant himself from Relena. Duo figured it was an act to make him think that there was nothing going on. He reached behind him and grabbed his duffel bag and pulled out his thermos and handed it to Heero.

"Coffee, it may be warm by now."

He then pulled out two sandwiches and handed them to Relena. She took them thanking him.

"They're sending a helicopter to take the two of you to the hospital."

Heero only nodded. Relena was too busy eating both sandwiches since Heero had refused to eat one.

After she finished eating Duo and Relena chatted about what was going on in the real world until the helicopter arrived. Heero had put himself back into the cold and uncaring role once again. Duo could tell that Relena was upset at Heero's actions. He told her not to worry about it. Heero had set up certain barriers when it came to other people. And what he shared with her would only be with her.

Duo waited until the helicopter took off and he started to head back. He smirked when he thought about going home. He missed L2 and missed Hilde. He was a lucky man to have her accept his stay on earth for the past month without being angry at only getting a call from him every couple of days. He would have to make it up to he when he got back, but right now he wanted to get to the hospital so he wouldn't miss the show that he knew was about to happen.

Well that's it for now. I will try my best to get the next chapter posted this weekend.
